Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This report discusses capability of packet recovery by using forward error correction (FEC). A commonly used packet recovery by FEC applies the interleaving method for dissimating a bursty data loss caused by a lost packet. This implies that the recovery capability is determined by the number of lost packets within an interleaving block. We first propose a Poisson-based packet loss model, examine feasibility of the loss model against the packet loss measurement data on a real Internet connection, and then, derive the recovery capability from the loss model.
