Efficient Image Search based on Interval Estimation of Correlation

Abstract(in English) An efficient algorithm for searching similar images is proposed. The algorithm is applicable to content based image retrieval and multiple template matching in large scene. For designing the algorithm, by an indirect way with any pibot image, we define constraint inequality about correlation coefficients of registered images and the object image provided by users. The inequality shows the range of unknown but estimated correlation coefficient. Using the upper limit of the inequality, two conditions for selecting redundant images of smaller similarity from the database can be derived, which enable to save computation time of searching. The algorithm is applied to real searching problems in the image database of 1,200 images and the multiple template matching with 12 templates, enabling to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.
