Abstract(in English) Designed with the "shared-nothing" parallel architecture, Sybase MPP is a highly parallel database management system allowing parallelized queries, updates, load, backup, and other utilities. The product was designed with specific objectives: namely scalability, portability, availability and usability. In this paper, we describe its software architecture, data partition methods provided, and its query optimization strategy. Also described are the how and why its software architecture can achieve the design objectives.
