Access Load Balancing for Parallel Secondary Storage and the Performance Evaluation

Abstract(in English) On the massively parallel computer, massive amount of data is manipulated, and a number of access requests are simultaneously generated from multiple processors. So secondary storage must have large capacity and high-concurrency. In order to meet these requirements, one effective method is to use a lot of disks connected in parallel. For such a parallel disk system, it is important to allocate the access from processors evenly and operate the disks with high utilization. This paper proposes a parallel file access method named DECODE (Dynamic Express Changing Of Data Entry), which can balance access requests by selecting low load disk dynamically as a disk for writing data according to the workload of each disk. And the effectiveness of this method was verified by software simulation.
