Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We propose a new rejection criteria based on distance measure. From a viewpoint of accuracy, second-order discriminant functions are often used for character classification. The distance value which is the output of character classifier is used also for rejection criteria. However, since the distributions of the output value of those functions are differed by each category, the recognition rate fall down when we use unique value for rejection criteria. Assuming that the distribution of distance is normal distribution, we propose rejection criteria that use the accumulation normal distribution value as reliability. As a result of handwritten numeral strings recognition experiments, the rate of character recognition improved 15% compared to conventional method that uses common threshold value for every category.
