Real time posture estimation of human hand using database

Abstract(in English) In the conventional finger form presumption, there was a problem that special apparatus could not be needed or presumption on real time could not be performed. In this study, a hand posture estimation system was proposed with database of hand images and joint angle data with processing time of 30 frames per a second. In the database, each image was devided into some areas from where the features were extracted with higher-order local autocorreration function. Joint angle data paired with each image were obtained with a data glove. The number of features in the database was decreased and the images were sorted according to the features, so as to obtain the orderly database. When hand images are input to the system with a high speed camera, features of each image is sequentially extracted with the same method, and the likelihood is selected according to the distance. The experimental results showed that the system performs with high accuracy within processing time of 33 ms for each image input.
