Automated Classification of Bone Structure and Extraction of Thoracic Cage in 3-D Torso CT Images

Abstract(in English) We propose an image-processing framework for extracting and recognizing bone frame and identifying thoracic cage from 3-D multi-slice torso CT images in this paper. In order to find suspicious regions from internal organ regions, it is necessary for a computer aided diagnosis system to identify thoracic cage firstly. We proposed a method to extract thoracic cage using the information of the bone frame which can avoid the influence caused by the disease. The frame work extracts bone frame and recognize the bone structure based features of sharp, position, density firstly, and then, create the contour of thoracic cage from the surface of the bone frame and adjust it based on an active contour model. We applied this method to 4 patient cases of torso CT images and show experimental results finally.
