Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | The present study investigated Japanese right dislocation constructions that right-dislocate pre-verbal elements into post-verbal positions. This type of construction is often used in colloquial speech. Event-related brain potentials were recorded from 123 channels, while participants were reading right-dislocated argument sentences and right-dislocated adjunct sentences. Right-dislocated argument sentences contain filler-gap dependencies between arguments and empty categories, whereas right-dislocated adjunct sentences have no filler-gap dependencies. It was found that right-dislocated arguments elicited a more early and left dominant postivity, while right-dislocated adjuncts elicited a right dominant positivity. |
