Abstract(in English) | In face image processing, detection of eyes is a fundamental and important issue. In this paper, we propose a method for detecting the position of eyes efficiently by a very simple technique of multi-stage center-of-gravity calculation. First, the area of a face is identified from the image based on skin color information. Second, in the pinpointed face area, the center of gravity is calculated by using grayscale information considering the right-and-left eye regions are independent. Then, for more accuracy of these center-of-gravity points, we repeat the same calculation narrowing the area focusing each center point, and finally the coordinates of the eyes in the image are detected. This attains a robust and high-speed detection to size change of the target in an image, and also the difference in the form of eyes. Experimental results are shown for images of the 32 persons' 42 patterns (some are with glasses, etc.) taken by a digital camera. The rate of a success is found 95%. |
