Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In this paper, we propose a method for detecting three dimensional free areas and obtaining free paths from segmentation. Segmentation is carried out by using edge and HSL color information, and free areas are selected on the assumption that the lowest segment in an image corresponds to the road areas where an observer stands. Point correspondence is performed by using intersections of image lines projected from virtual radial lines on a road with the boundaries of extracted free areas. Distances of free areas against directions are calculated from the corresponding points by using stereo method.
