A study on controlling scheme of cancellation moderating factor of MAI canceller cascaded with adaptive array antenna for DS-CDMA system

Abstract(in English) For effective multiple access interference suppression, a receiver cascading an adaptive array antenna (AAA) and a multistage parallel interference canceller (MPIC) has been studied. In this receiver, the MPIC generates and subtracts replicas of residual interference signals in the output of the AAA. The generated replica is multiplied by a positive number smaller than unity, which is called cancellation moderating factor (CMF), to prevent interference enhancement due to subtracting inaccurate replicas. Since the accuracy of channel estimation varies according to the arrival angles of the interference signals owing to spatial suppression by the AAA, CMF control for each interference signal is necessary to mitigate the replica subtraction error. In this paper, a CMF controlling scheme using the ratio of the interference signal's power to the desired signal's power is proposed. The performance of the cascading receiver with different CMF controlling schemes is evaluated by computer simulations assuming an asynchronous uplink single chip-rate variable spreading factor DS-CDMA system. The simulation results show that the performance of the cascading receiver is improved by using the proposed power-based CMF control compared with the case of using the log likelihood ratio of information symbols for CMF control in an exponentially decayed 5-path Rayleigh distributed channel.
