Measurements for IP packet QoS over Wireless LAN

Abstract(in English) IEEE802.11 wireless LAN systems are being widely used and real-time applications such as IP phone and video communication service are also being popular over wireless LAN. However wireless LAN systems have interference issues because of undesired signals and noises from other wireless systems and CSMA/CA protocol also causes the network performance variation. It is essential to manage and control the quality of service for real-time applications over wireless LAN systems. We focus on retry ratio over wireless LAN as a metrics to estimate the IP packet QoS. First, over IEEE802.11b wireless LAN systems adjacent to IEEE802.11g systems, we evaluate some metrics of IP packets for IP traffic patterns. These experiments show that DUR(Desired signal to Undesired signal Ratio) effects the IP metrics and retrys of transmitting packets cause jitter and other degradation of QoS. These results indicate that retry ratio over wireless LAN highly correlates with IP metric, which determines the policy of managing and controlling the QoS for IP traffic patterns. Moreover, issues of CIS defectiveness came out.
