Abstract(in English) | A hybrid network which integrates a public mobile communications network and an ad-hoc wireless network, such as a wireless LAN, is proposed. In this hybrid network, an end user connects to the network which can provide a better grade of service. Thereby, the local area network can compensate for low transmission speed and high transmited power characteristic of a mobile communications network, and the mobile communication net- work can ensure that wide area coverage is maintained. It is possible to connect an AP (Access Point) to the wired network, and the Internet. In this case, a packet arrives at the core network of a mobile communications system through the Internet. However, a problem exists with the propagation delay on the Internet. Therefore, communications which must be carried at real-time such as a voice communication etc... may suffer from excessive delay. In this paper, a system which takes the propagation delay on a network, into consideration is proposed. Quality degradation caused by the propagation delay can be suppressed using this system. We propose an algorithm by which a MS may decide to connect to a BS or a AP considering both propagation delay and required transmission power. We show that using our algorithm an improvement of 25%-30% in system performance can be obtained. |
