Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In this paper, we examine the relation between network-level QoS and user-level QoS on shared virtual environment (SVE) system using haptic interfaces. In such a haptic collaboration system, the impairment of network QoS causes the degradation of collaboration performance among users. This paper especially examines the experiment of remote navigation system in which a pair of users interact directly (not through any virtual objects), and the operation of haptic device of one user is immediately reflected to another user. The task of the experiment is remote calligraphy teaching, in which one user (teacher) navigates another user (student) to write down a character using constraint force. In the experiment subjective and objective assessment are performed, and we evaluate the effect of network delay on the multi-user collaboration, and the role of haptics in this system.
