Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) A new objective evaluation for digital still images based on image complexity is described. At first, an original image and a degraded image are decomposed into a set of 8 binary images by bit-slicing operation. Each bit plane is divided into small local images (8×8 pixel size image) and its image complexity is calculated for each area. If the local image is simple, it is presumed as an informative region, however, if complex, it is presumed a noise-like region. Finally by comparing the placement of the simple or complex region of the original image to the degraded image, we can assume the degraded area by the difference of the placement of the simple or complex region between the original image and the degraded one.
