| Abstract(in English) | IP telephony services are expected to be the most promising applications over IP networks. To provide the IP telephony services economically with adequate quality, the speech quality assessment methodology plays one of the key roles. This paper describes the current status of the standardization in ITU-T (International Telecommunication Union, Telecommunication Standardization Sector) SG12 and in TTC (Telecommunication Technology Committee). Firstly, it reviews the primary impairment factors and the quality assessment methodologies. Then, it describes the concept of E-model as a network planning tool taking into account various quality factors. Secondly, it outlines the trends of the Japanese and international standardization activities for the IP telephony quality. It also describes study items, standardization topics, and the relations between the recommendations concerning IP telephony in ITU-T SG12. Finally, it explains the main points of TTC standard JJ-201.01 "A method for speech quality assessment of IP telephony. |
