Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) A face recognition system based on deformable template matching works by creating deformable templates from face images of individuals to be recognized, and matching them against input video material. Each deformable template consists of the spatial coordinates of a number of facial feature points together with feature values measured at each feature point. In this report we present experimental results which show that applying random perturbations to the feature point positions prior to creation of the deformable templates leads to an increase in robustness of the recognition system with respect to changes in facial expression. We discuss a number of possible reasons for the improvement.
