Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper presents a method of hand shape estimation under complex backgrounds. A hand shape is estimated by selecting a best shape model from database. Shape change in image sequence is tracked using shape transition network in order to decrease matching cost. A model has a hand contour, position and velocity as a component. The hand contour of a model is matched with the edge of an input image, and the matching criterion is evaluated. However, shape change tracking is failed when it changes quickly in hand sign language and the hand contour is observed unclearly. In order to avoid the problem, we add a new model which has only a hand position and velocity. And we propose matching criterion using edge existence probability in a background.
