Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We discuss a problem of control the atmosphere during the dialogue between computer graphics (CG) animated characters. The control is maintained by the adjustment of their visual nonverbal expressions. There are some results on research incorporating translation of text based information to spoken dialogue between CG characters. We focus on the impact of visual nonverbal expressions of the CG characters on the communication atmosphere. In the real world a lot of interdependencies of nonverbal expressions during the person-to-person dialogue may be observed. The intimacy equilibrium model, that is one of the strategies among research communities to model such interdependencies, describes each interpersonal relationship with the assumption of the balance in the intimacy presented using their nonverbal expressions. Based on that balance, we propose a new model to control the atmosphere by adjusting the character's nonverbal expressions adequately.
