Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) What pattern is a random one? In the present study, we investigated subjective randomness of pattern layouts in terms of such physical factors as Dnn (Distance to the nearest neighbor), standard deviation (SD) of Dnn, and fractal dimensions. In the experiment 1, participants rated subjective randomness of patters calculated by a random function of computer. As a result, it was suggested that SD of Dnn can explain the subjective randomness. In the experiment 2, participants rated the randomness of patterns composed by displacing items in a regular pattern. We consequently obtained the similar results to experiment 1. We therefore suggest that subjective randomness can be explained by SD of Dnn.
