Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper aims at generating the facial expressions image of various persons for a human interface. Muscle movement inside the face generates the real facial expressions of a human. We are using the muscle-based facial model that Waters proposed. This paper proposes a method that estimates muscle movement, i.e., muscular contraction parameters using detected facial feature points. First, the facial feature points of a facial image are detected by using image-processing methods. Then, the muscular contraction parameters are calculated by using facial feature points. Finally, we obtain the vertex displacements using estimated muscular contraction parameters. Experimental results reveal that our approach can generate a facial expression of the facial model, which corresponds to the facial expression of the actual facial image. And, it can generate the facial expressions of another person by using the fitting of the facial model (standard) to various face images.
