Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This study investigated the effects of expectancy of an ongoing relationship on interpersonal communication. We also examined those from the viewpoint of individual difference in social skill. 23 female dyads who were unacquainted with each other were assigned to "expectancy of an ongoing relationship" condition or "no-expectancy" condition, and they participated in either conversation. Results were as follows. First, participants who were expected the relationship to continue gazed at partners more than participants with no-expectancy. Secondly, participants whose social skill was high gazed at partners more and had less self-manipulation than participants whose social skill was low. Finally, when participants had not expected the relationship to continue, participants whose social skill was high talked with partners more actively and enjoyed their conversation more than those who had lower social skill. Results suggested that social skill would make us possible to 'treasure every meeting for it will never recur'.
