Abstract(in English) | In the previous studies of text entry for mobile devices, they are primarily interested in keystrokes per character, so that no attention had been paid to the operation time. Here we discuss not only keystrokes per character but also the operation time of several kana-text entry methods, i. e. the multitap method, the 2-touch method, and the four-direction arrow keys method. As a result of our analyses, we concluded that although, in general, the "function keys" and/or the "re-alignment of character positions" helps in increasing the efficiency of the operation, when it comes to the multitap method, it turns out that reduction of the keystrokes per character is not directly connected with reduction of the operation time. Thus we cannot say that the simple addition of the function keys improves the efficiency of the text entry. |
