Abstract(in English) | Recently, mobile videophones have been commercially available. The device is probably used for distant signed language conversation. The display size, however, is about 2inches due to the design requirement. We make two experiments to investigate signed language perception under the condition of small display sizes of 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6inches: (1)subjective sentence understanding, and (2)degree of picture preference. The experimental results show that the intelligibility and preference are decreasing significantly at display sizes smaller than 3inches. These results lead to plausible conclusion that the picture size affects greatly signed language perception. The results will contribute to the design of mobile videophones for distant signed language conversation. |
