Abstract(in English) | This report addresses sign word formation for medical terms form the viewpoint of sign production and perception. Certain models for sign word formation are used for discussing word structure of signs collected with deaf people through a direct interview method. Some deictic and referent-iconic signs do not have much variation. Other base-iconic signs have much variation. The main cause of the variation for these signs is the variation of the base used for word representation. The choice of a sign form, or sign word variation, depends on how a signer characterizes the referent: How a signer chooses a base for the referent. The recognition of a sign produced, on the contrary, depends on how a receiver can determine correctly the base from a sign produced, and moreover the referent from the base recognized. These issues are very important for not only performing an effective interpretation between a spoken language and a signed language but also producing signing easy to understand for deaf people by machines. |
