Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Studies of facial expressions have been done for 10 years in the laboratory of inter-personal behavior in Graduate School of Human Sciences and Cross-cultural studies, Kobe University. We have been studying typical Japanese facial displays in usual inter-personal communication, considering facial movement as a social behavior in face. This report presents the history of the Japanese Facial Action Coding Technique (J-FACT) which we developed on the basis of FACS (Ekman & Friesen, 1978), applying digital video processing technologies, in order to measure sequentially dynamic facial movement in facial muscles as well as eye-movement and head-movement. Our works on Japanese facial displays with J-FACT are reviewed.
