Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In order to investigate the mutual influence of the two speakers in dialogues in which they listen to each other receptively, the present study compared the switching pause behavior in receptive and unreceptive dialogues. The results indicated that in receptive dialogues, the SP of the conversational partners become gradually similar. Moreover, it is suggested that an effective strategy used by the speakers to show receptive attitude to their partner is adjusting their own SP so that the difference between both their SP becomes smaller. Based on these results, the role of the SP in building a relationship with the conversational partner was examined.
