Abstract(in English) We report here on an experiment of visual recognition of sixteen mouth shapes appeared in Japanese that are displayed by four different picture sizes; six, four, two and one inch. We make mouth shape identification experiment with sixteen subjects. The experimental results show that there is significant difference in proportion for correct identification for four different picture sizes. The percentage of the correct identification does not change significantly for six, four and two inch conditions but one inch. The results also show that there is significant difference in correct identification between mouth shapes. Furthermore, certain mouth shapes significantly decrease the proportion for correct identification when picture size is one inch.
