Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This study investigated the three-dimensional structure of the visual information for judging emotion from facial expressions. Using the real facial data obtained in the previous study, new schematic faces were produced. In the experiment participants were asked for categorical judgments of emotion from schematic faces. Canonical discriminant analysis on the relationship between the displacement of nine parameters of schematic faces and the categorical judgments revealed the evidence of three-dimensional structure, which dimensions consist of "slantedness of the upper face," "slantedness of the lower face," and "curvedness/openness" as obtained in the previous experiment of the real facia data.
