Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This report proposes an adaptive display control scheme of touchable exhibits in a distributed virtual museum in order to decrease the response time when displaying exhibits and to improve the output quality of haptic media as well as audio and visual media. This scheme carries out LoD control of exhibited objects and proactive transfer control of display files. The LoD control of objects dynamically changes granularity of object display according to the network load, the CPU processing load, and the importance of object which is determined by the distance, angle or direction, etc. from a user's viewpoint to the object. Also the proactive transfer control of display files transmits the haptic information (e.g., weight and form) about the object, visual information (e.g., a color and pattern), and explanatory information (e.g., voice, video and character) to a server and/or clients in advance according to the file size, network load, and the CPU processing load. We discuss the implementation method of the scheme in the report.
