Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This report deals with a distributed virtual museum with touchable exhibits as one of applications which treat haptic media in addition to audio and visual media. Using haptic media, we can feel the shape, weight and hardness of each exhibit object. We here suppose that visitors, docents and/or curators do collaborative work at the museum. Then, we address QoS (Quality of Service) control (e.g., media synchronization control and traffic control) issues in the case where we use QoS non-guaranteed networks like the Internet. We have created several touchable exhibits in order to verify the effectiveness of using haptic media and that of the QoS control for high quality of media output.
