Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We investigate the performance of sensor networks from the viewpoint of network availability and evaluate the impact of protocols and network configurations for it. A typical future wireless sensor network consists of a large number of micro-sized sensors that are equipped batteries with limited capacity. For such a network, energy consumption is one of the most important issues. Varieties of protocols applied for a ring network configuration and a linear network configuration are analyzed and the explicit formulas for the network availability are derived for them. The numerical results using these formulas give us surprising results: the backup route may not improve the network availability. This is because a backup route may offer higher loads to the network segment that does not have dead sensor nodes and reduce its lifetime.
