Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Impairments appearing in time-varying digitally-coded videos have the potential to differ with respect both their intensity and their duration. The duration and intensity of an impairment can vary quite dramatically within a video sequence. This paper details experiment designed to investigate if the duration of a video impairment affects overall picture quality rating. In our experiment, 3 kinds of video sequence were presented with varying levels of duration. Picture quality ratings were obtained using the SSCQE method. The ANOVA produced a significant main effect of impairment duration. The varying delay in viewer response time of impairment is not significant for duration. Moreover, subjects take between 7 and 15 seconds before reaching a stable quality level in response to a marked fall in pciture quality.
