Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Research on aging of adult intelligence revealed that verbal intelligence quotient (VIQ) gradually increases until the sixties whereas performance intelligence quotient (PIQ) has a peak around the forties. Based on this result, it is said that language function is robust against aging. However, what is measured by intelligence tests like, e.g., WAIS-R is knowledge about semantic memory, which is different from language functions themselves. In this presentation we will show results of several experiments on aging of language functions and compare the results with those obtained from pathological cases such as aphasic and demented patients.
