Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Language acquisition in infants is a developmental process based on abundant speech inputs and outputs in ambient language environment. Spoken language is composed of the two aspects of perception and production. In this paper, speech acquisition in infants is interpreted through these dual aspects with a focus on the effects of the native language, and the most recent findings from research with Japanese infants are described. Research using an infant speech database, which NTT Communication Science Laboratory is in the process of compiling, is also introduced.
