Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The present author has given university students the training lessons of tuning up machine translation system at computer rooms in the University Information Processing Centers for thirteen years. This is the work in which the students store lexical, grammatical and pragmatics data in order to translate the second language (English) into their first language (Mother tongue = Japanese). Students collect English sentences from their favorite books or other materials and try to make them translated into correct Japanese sentences by tuning up the system. According to the questionnaires on the course, many students are astonished by finding that the linguistic activities of human beings are such complicated data manipulations within the brain.
