Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) A probabilistic approach to category-based induction was examined. Lo et al.(2002) proposed a propablistic approach to category-based induction called PPP (Premise Probability Principle). According to PPP the strength of a general inductive argument is determined by prior probability of the premise(s) but not by likelihood. The author argues that likelihood plays some roles to determine the strengh of an inductive argument. The results show that not only prior probability of the premises but also likelihood play some roles to determine the strength of an inductive argument. The resulsts also suggest that prior probability of the premises and likelihood play complemental roles in induction.
