Reduction of response time and polarization dependence of tunable vertically coupled microring resonator filter

Abstract(in English) We have demonstrated a tunable vertically coupled microring resonator filter using the thermo-optic effect of polymer material in our previous work. However, there remained two problems : One is the two kinds of time constants, a few milli-second and the order for a few seconds in the time response characteristics. Thus we aimed at reducing this response speed in this work. The time constant was shortened from 3.3ms to 1.1ms substituting a silicon plate for the slide glass as the substrate holder. The other is the polarization dependence of tenability, i.e. the TO coefficient was different for the TE and TM polarizations. The polarization dependence of tunability was successfully reduced to 3% by using a low birefringent polyimide as the microring core. The temperature depemdence of tunability was -0.063nm/degree for TE mode and -0.065nm/degree for TM mode.
