Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Modulation instability in an optical fiber link is numerically studied with cosideration for random modal birefringence. A perturbation analysis of propagation equations yields parametric gain spectrum of a short piece of birefringent fiber. Obtained results are compared with numerical analyses of field evolution in the fiber link using a split-step fourier method. It has been revealed that, in the case of small transmission power, randomness of the modal birefringence gives rise to large variation of gain spectrum, whereas in the case of large transmission power, the randomness causes little effect on pulsation of the modulated signal.
