Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) A comprehensive theory is shown for unidirectional amplifiers using the interaction between electron beams and electromagnetic waves. This theory covers wide range of this kind of device, including travel ing-wave tubes and optical amplifiers, and also takes into account the influence of electron scattering and energy broadening. Using this theory, degradation of gain due to electron scattering and energy distribution is analyzed in detail for optical amplification by an electron beam in the vacuum. The theory is also applied to electron beam in a solid, and the gain in the terahertz range is analyzed. An amplifier device using two-dimensional electron gas and slow-wave circuits is discussed. The terahertz amplification by this device is possible at low temperature around 100K, even if a bad case is assumed for scattering property of hot carriers which is not clear enough at present.
