Abstract(in English) | When single channel bit-rates of optical fiber transmission systems progress to several tens of gigabits/s, polarization-mode dispersion becomes a major factor that limits the propagation distance. Since enhanced power solitons are permitted in dispersion-managed systems, it will be expected that dispersion-managed solitons have robustness against polarization-mode dispersion compared with conventional solitons. In this paper, the influence of polarization-mode dispersion in dispersion-managed soliton systems is numerically studied and power dependency of transmission distance is discussed. It is predicted that there exist two transmission restrictions, pulse separation due to polarization mode dispersion and nonlinear pulse to pulse interaction, that depend on pulse power and birefringence distribution, and that give an optimized power for the maximum transmission distance. |
