Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) A waveguide optical isolator can be constructed by use of a nonreciprocal phase shift which occurs in TM modes traveling in magneto-optic waveguides. The device includes an optical interferometer that is composed of a nonreciprocal phase shifter and a reciprocal phase shifter, leading to constructive interference in the forward traveling waves and destructive interference in the backward traveling waves. Suppression of back-reflected TE modes is discussed in the TM-mode optical isolator employing the nonreciprocal phase shift.
