High-capacity transmission experiments using distributed Raman amplifiers

Abstract(in English) We report wavelength division multiplexing transmission experiments using distributed Raman amplifiers (DRAs). We enabled seamless single-band transmission over 74-nm bandwidth by optimizing the allocation of pump wavelengths and powers, and proposed a new dispersion map which provided adequate Raman gain in all repeater s pans. By using these techniques, we have successfully demonstrated 2.4 Tbit/s (10 Gbit/s×240) transmission over 7404 km. Moreover, we proposed a novel DRA that uses pump-and-signal wavelength-interleaving allocation and achieved a signal bandwidth of 202 nm, which was much broader than the limit of conventional DRA. By using our DRA, we have successfully demonstrated 4.23 Tbit/s (10 Gbit/s×423) transmission over 120 km and showed the feasibility of 1000 -channel WDM system with a transmission rate of 10 Gbit/s per channel.
