Photoluminescence properties in vapor deposited films of a bisazomethine dye at low temperature

Abstract(in English) We carried out steady-state and time-resolved PL measurement on vapor deposited films of a bisazomethine dye with various degrees of J-aggregates. From comparison of these films, PL originates not from J-aggregates but from its crystalline phase. If samples do not have any defect sites, very simple and reasonable dynamics would be observed. However, in real samples with defect sites, competition between free exciton and exciton trapped to defect sites shows complicated dynamics and temperature dependence of PL spectrum. It is also revealed that they are very similar to the dynamics reported as characteristic features of J-aggregates.
