Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The cost reduction of optical communication devices is the key factor to accomplish the widely spread of the optical communication which is expected to be as domain in the next generation of broadband services. In order to achieve the key factor, we are making efforts to develop the replicated polymer optical waveguide, "SPICA (Stacked Polymer optical IC/Advanced)". Our unique replication technology realizes both low cost and large-scale production. And we already realized the single mode optical waveguide by adopting this novel technology. By utilizing the advantages of the replication technology, the simple process and the unique wafer stack integration with V-groove formed Si-wafer, we have newly fabricated the optical waveguide for single fiber bi-directional optical transceiver. In this paper, on this new device, the fabrication method, the basic characteristics, and the application to the optical module are discussed.
