Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We have developed high coupling efficiency LD module using a ball lens. Compared with aspherical lenses, ball lenses are of advantage to the cost. However, because of the lens aberration, LD to single mode fiber coupling efficiency is not more than -7.0dB using a low refractive index lens (n = 1.50). We calculated the coupling efficiency considering the lens aberration and designed a module using high refractive index lens. The result of our calculation and experiment shows the module using a ball lens achieves high coupling efficiency -4.4dB.
