Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) It is difficult to cut a female thread in the metal-impregnated carbon strip to fix to the pantograph head with a screw. The metal-impregnated carbon strips are generally manufactured with a dovetail base that can be clad with a close fitting steel sheath. The authors have applied the metal-impregnated carbon/carbon composite (C/C composite) to the contact strip. Since the C/C composite consists of a textile structure of carbon fibre with higher mechanical strength and toughness than the exisiting metal-impregnated carbon, it is as easy to cut a female screw in it. The C/C composite contact strip was installed on the pantograph of a DC railway vehicle. It was confirmed that the C/C composite strip fixed to pantograph head with a screw bolt had sufficient durability in practical use and its wear rate was lower than that of a sintered metal.
