Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Recently, the volumetric data sets routinely result from a number of three-dimensional data acquisition techniques, such as laser range scanner, CT or MRl volumetric imaging and so on. ln this article, the recent development of 3-D CT technology is described and the importance of efficient geometric modeling of the acquired 3-D data is pointed out. 0ne of the most promising approach based on the multiresolution mesh representation is introduced. This kind of modeling is particularly convenient for a number of applications, including progressive geometry compression for efficient storage and transmission.
