A simulation study on code combining diversity reception

Abstract(in English) In this paper, wc propose new diversity reception schemes using Code-Combining (CC) instead of Maximum-Ratio-Combining (MRC) which is widely used in digital mobile communications. The proposed schemes combine error correction coding and diversity reception technologies by using diversity reception with code combining and convolutional coding with Error-and-Erasure-Correction or Soft-Decision Viterbi decoding. We investigate the performance of the schemes by computer simulation under the channel conditions of frequency nat fading, frequency selective fading as well as co-channel interference. The simulation results show that the proposed schemes have equal or even better bit-error-rate (BER) performance in frequency flat fading channels, and even better BER performance in frequency selective fading as well as co-channel interference channels than that of MRC scheme. In addition, the system structure of the proposed schemes is much simpler than that of MRC system. Applying the proposed diversity combining schemes to W-CDMA systems, we also investigate the performance of code combining W-CDMA RAKE reception and good results are also confirmed.
