Sound Radiation Analysis of a Cone-Type Loudspeaker with an Elastic Damper, Voice-Coil, Cone, Edge-Suspension and Dust-Cap

Abstract(in English) Sound radiation from a cone-type loudspeaker with a voice-coil, damper, cone, edge-suspension, and dust-cap is analyzed. The target model is an axisymmetric loudspeaker mounted in an infinite baffle. The finite element method is applied to both the component materials (conical shell element) and the acoustic cavity in front of the cone (triangular ring element). The outer semi-infinite space is treated analytically by applying the Green's function. The electrical equivalent circuit is applied to the electrical system of the loudspeaker. The calculated sound pressure responses in terms of on-axis, 30 degrees off-axis, and 60 degrees off-axis responses are compared with measured results. The comparison with measured results at low frequencies below 100 Hz showed difference in responses because of the infinite baffle assumption for the calculation model. The calculated responses in the piston-motion range, however, were almost identical to the measured results. At higher frequencies where cone break-up occurs, the calculated responses were found to be good predictors of measured results. This finite element approach can be effectively used for practical design and development of a loudspeaker, because all the components of the mechanical system are taken into consideration.
